In the beginning of the universe, the “Monkey King” was born from a heavenly stone. He was then given the name “SUN WUKONG” (Wu Yue) by his teacher, Subhuti, through whom he learned the way of immortality and magic.
However, due to his rebellion against Heaven, he was detained by the Buddha under a mountain called Five Elements Mountain. After 500 years have elapsed, TANG XUANZANG (Nie Yuan), commissioned by the Buddha and on the Emperor’s orders, setsoff for India to retrieve original Buddhist scriptures and accepts WUKONG as his disciple during his pilgrimage. In the Gao Family Village, they come upon ZHU BAJIE (Zang Jinsheng), who attempted to flirt with the moon goddess Chang’e, resulting in his banishment into the mortal world. Later on, when trying to cross the Flowing Sands River, they subdue the water demon and rename him “SHA WUJING” (Elvis Tsui). Thus unfolds a harsh journey to the West, where TANG XUANZANG and his three disciples find themselves in predicaments that consist of run-ins with various demons and animal spirits……
