莘月(劉詩詩飾)原為被狼群撫養的女孩兒，在大漠中流浪的她被漢人阿爹所救，隨之學習漢族的詩書謀略。莘月夢想有朝一日能和阿爹回到南朝，可惜邊關一場政變，阿爹鬱鬱而終，莘月再度流浪於大漠。之後，莘月遇見了從建安來的莫循(胡歌飾)和衛無忌(彭于晏飾)，一個送給莘月衣裙，一個留下盤纏和她約定建安再見。在兩人的影響下，莘月踏上了建安的土地，卻被建安城著名歌舞坊「落玉坊」掌舵人紅姑(田蕊妮飾)騙到「落玉坊」當舞姬。莘月重遇莫循而成為「落玉坊」的坊主，原來莫循是建安城裏最有權勢的商人。莘月的歌舞劇《花月濃》紅遍了整個建安城，因而重遇無忌。絕世佳人秦湘(陳法拉飾)為了報父仇，請求莘月收留，助自己進宮。莘月覺得可以間接幫到莫循在建安日漸衰弱的勢力，於是聯合無忌結交了長公主，助秦湘進宮。秦湘進宮後，深受皇上寵愛。
莫循溫文爾雅、月朗風清，莘月對他情根深種，無奈莫循因為身有腿疾，不想拖累莘月，只有狠心拒絕。英姿勃發的無忌將軍對莘月一片癡情，一直在她身邊守護着。莫循的多次拒絕讓莘月心灰意冷，放棄建安的一切，傷心的回到大漠。恰逢無忌在邊關保家衛國，多番奔波終將莘月尋回，兩人在戰場幾番出生入死，感情逐漸加深，莘月答應嫁給無忌。
回到建安，莘月再次跳入南朝詭譎難測的政治漩渦之中。秦湘立志奪嫡，與萬皇后(張可頤飾)及長公主為首的萬家勢力對抗，認為無忌是自己復仇奪嫡路上最大的障礙，不惜用盡各種辦法迫害莘月。無忌亦因遭人算計，誤殺朝中名將李佶(韓棟飾)，被皇上貶往幽都。一場戰事中，無忌受傷中毒。莫循為了成全莘月與無忌，不惜以雙腿殘廢的代價以身試毒……
